Numerical Method for Shock Front Hugoniot States
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a Continuous Hugoniot Method for the efficient simulation of shock wave fronts. This approach achieves significantly improved efficiency when the generation of a tightly spaced collection of individual steady-state shock front states is desired, and allows for the study of shocks as a function of a continuous shock strength parameter, vp. This is, to our knowledge, the first attempt to map the Hugoniot continuously. We apply the method to shock waves in Lennard-Jonesium along the <100> direction. We obtain very good agreement with prior simulations, as well as our own benchmark comparison runs.

متن کاملHugoniots and Shock-melting Criteria for Solid and Porous H2o Ice
Introduction. Knowledge of the dynamic response of planetary minerals such as H2O ice is required to model and interpret mutual collisions and impact craters. The Hugoniot of H2O ice describes the dynamic strength and possible shock-compressed states, which determine the mechanical and thermodynamic work done during an impact event. Previous studies [1, and references within] of the shock prope...
متن کاملDynamic compression of enstatite
New shock wave data for Bamle enstatite (Mgo. s•,Feo.•JSiOs in the range from 60480 kb indicate a Hugoniot elastic limit of 67 ñ 10 kb and a possible phase-transition-produced shock front of 135 _ 10 kb amplitude. Above the latter shock pressure, states in a mixedphase regime are achieved up to •350 kb, above which the Hugoniot states are believed to represent the equation of state of a shock-i...
متن کاملMolecular-Level Simulations of Shock Generation and Propagation in Soda-Lime Glass
A non-equilibrium molecular dynamics method is employed to study the mechanical response of soda-lime glass (a material commonly used in transparent armor applications) when subjected to the loading conditions associated with the generation and propagation of planar shock waves. Specific attention is given to the identification and characterization of various (inelastic-deformation and energy-d...
متن کاملPath integral monte carlo calculation of the deuterium hugoniot
Restricted path integral Monte Carlo simulations have been used to calculate the equilibrium properties of deuterium for two densities: 0.674 and 0.838 g cm(-3) ( r(s) = 2.00 and 1.86) in the temperature range of 10(5)</=T</=10(6) K. We carefully assess size effects and dependence on the time step of the path integral. Further, we compare the results obtained with a free particle nodal restrict...
